Healing Through Partnership – by Jean Buscaglia-Yurkiewicz
Jean Buscaglia-Yurkiewicz recently traveled to Malawi, Africa, with VIP on a Medical Trip. Hear about her experience providing critical healthcare to people in need.
When asked to describe this 2025 Medical and Dental trip to Malawi, there are four words that come to mind, compassion, collaboration, creativity, and Christ-centered.

The remote clinics are held over the course of 3 days with clinics in 4 villages across VIP’s impact area. The clinics are full of compassion for those who are ill. Who have such little access to care that the laying on of hands and providing them with a cool cloth means more than you could ever imagine.
There was so much collaboration between healthcare colleagues, translators, and lay persons, Malawian and American, in order to provide the best care possible. We often have to think out of the box like when we made IV hangers out of gauze for critically ill patients to receive life saving medicine for the treatment of malaria. This type of creativity is so important in an environment with limited resources. We were even able to provide a makeshift podiatric boot so wound dressings could be kept clean while the patient awaits further care. But most of all this work is Christ-centered, following Jesus’s lead to care for and come alongside our brothers and sisters.
